In-house and Custom-Designed Courses

In-house, tailored and custom designed courses are increasingly being seen by companies as a means to deliver high quality, focused learning in a very cost effective manner. They offer many advantages in addition to being a much more attractive cost option than a public course.

Any company with a minimum of five or six potential attendees will gain a cost benefit by opting for an in-house course as compared to public course places. As numbers increase so does the saving.

More importantly, however, there are other benefits that can be even more valuable. They include:

  • relevance and familiarity of material, to the extent of using customised simulations and company based case studies;
  • focus on those topics of particular importance without wasting time covering areas that are already well understood;
  • encouraging cross-functional team working, especially important when moving to a process view of the supply chain;
  • developing a common level of understanding and a common language quickly, leading to rapid implementation of new techniques;
  • inclusion of a proportion of tailoring time in the basic price structure, allowing for a site visit plus additional course preparation time, related to the overall scale of the course;
  • more detailed and extensive pre-course business analysis and course development available if required.

We have a wide range of modules from which we can tailor courses and that also provide a base resource for the development of custom designed programmes. Click on one of the links below for a summary of our most popular modules:

Tailoring

Tailoring modifies an existing "generic" course and is a cost-effective option where the base course provides all of the material the client is seeking. Tailoring adjusts the content to include:

  • specific terminology and language that the client uses, so that the tutors use terms that are familiar;
  • relevant illustrative examples of situations or problems, often drawn from clients' own businesses, so the delegates can relate more easily to the techniques being explained;
  • a focus on the particular elements within the course that are of more importance to the client.

It also gives the tutor sufficient knowledge of the client’s business for them to place the right emphasis on those techniques, and the methods of application, that will be most appropriate for the client’s business processes.

Custom Design

Custom course design usually involves the development of new material, both in terms of lecture content and practical simulation and case studies. The benefits are such that several large multi-national companies have commissioned MML to design and deliver custom courses in specialist areas. As a result we are accredited learning providers to several company "universities" and intranet training portfolios.

Custom design generally includes:

  • detailed business analysis. For larger assignments this can involve a process effectiveness review, competence and training needs analysis, performance metrics comparisons and a detailed analysis of supply-chain data;
  • the development of new simulations and practical case studies using the business information gathered from the analysis;
  • a structured approach to the design and development of the detailed course content that involves close liaison with the client at each step;
  • formal feedback and review from the initial course(s) and further improvement and development of additional content as necessary.

Some of our larger programmes have involved:

  • design and development of an integrated programme of related courses
  • delivery of these courses to several hundred delegates
  • design and development of material for client staff to deliver to more than three thousand personnel
  • training and coaching selected staff in how to deliver these presentations.
